6 Ideas for Camping at Home
The kids are having such a blast this week with our camping theme at A Kid’s Life, but don’t let the fun stop here. You too, can create a camping theme right at home with these fun ideas.
Pitch a tent
Pitch a tent in the family room complete with stuffed animals, their favorite books, a flashlight, tea lights, string lights or a lantern, an air mattress or twin mattress, pillows and a sleeping bag. If you don’t have a tent, you can make a fort instead. Take a look at this video by Pretty Providence that shows you how to build a blanket fort in three different ways.
Replicate the night sky
If you have the time, you can purchase kits that reproduce the night sky using adhesive fluorescent stars and a template. This is a fun way to teach your kids about astronomy and also add a realistic outdoor camping experience.
Make a camping meal
If you have an outdoor fire pit, an outdoor grill or a camping stove, you can make a meal outdoors. The Pragmatic Parent has compiled a number of recipes that kids will love like Campfire French Toast, Camping Mac n’ Cheese and Grilled Corn and more. Complete your camping meal with these s’mores ideas.
Create crafts from nature
There are many crafts that you can create from items you find in nature. Here are just a few:
Make leaf rubbings which involve crayons, different shapes and sizes of leaves gathered from your backyard and paper.
Create a pine cone owl like this one: https://www.firefliesandmudpies.com/pinecone-owls/
Paint rocks. Did you know that Roseville residents paint rocks and then hide them for people to find? Take a look a the Facebook group Roseville Rocks and join in the fun!
Tell stories around the campfire
Whether or not you have a real campfire or create one from paper and cardboard, you can tell stories around the campfire or read books about camping. Here’s a great source for preschool camping books. Sometimes it’s fun when you take turns telling an impromptu story. One person can initiate the story and the others continue it, putting their own spin on the tale.
